Daydreaming Your Way To Success

keep_thinking.jpgHave you ever sat down and really envisioned what your life might be like in the future if you took one path over another? I don’t mean what it would be like if you won the lottery, but rather if you started your own business, or finished getting a degree, or maybe moved to a new city. So something concrete that you have complete control over.

You see, it’s something that I do alot of and I’ve frequently been told I’m a bit of a daydreamer. Yet I feel that being a dreamer gives me a slight edge over those that aren’t, because you will never succeed in anything unless you can envision yourself succeeding.

I know it’s a bit cliche, but I finally broke down and read Napoleon Hill’s book Think and Grow Rich and the biggest thing that I got from it is that you become whatever you most believe that you will be. It’s all about being able to completely envision, in every minute detail, where it is that you want to go. So in this respect I am ahead of the game because as I said, I am a daydreamer.

The problem however, that many daydreamers have is not in the creation of an idea but rather in its execution. There’s only so far a dream can take you if you never do anything to make it come true. Sadly, having a dream is only half the battle, because if it wasn’t then we would all be filthy rich, famous, skinny, and living in paradise. The truth of the matter is that to make our dreams come true we need to create a plan of action and actually follow through on the steps to get it done.

This is often were I stumble. While I’m great at creating a vision and even creating a plan of action, I’m horrible on the follow through. I tend to get just far enough into a plan to feel as though I’ve done something then procrastination sets in and my dream fizzles away. I’m sure that I’m not alone in this or else we would have no need to continuously create new resolutions each and every January.

My point is this, with the dawn of a new year lets all try to do things a little differently than the last. Lets find the daydreamer within ourselves and envision every detail of the life that we truly want to live. Then once you can see every moment of your future with clarity, put into place a plan of action and do something to make it happen. My resolution for this year is not to create a new dream for myself but rather to act upon the one I already have. So that is my challenge to you: find your dream and make it come true.

Let’s make 2010 the best year yet!

  1. It’s good to know I’m not the only one with my head in the clouds. I have made a point to make this year a year of action though. So far I’m doing good. Apparently actually doing stuff works better then just dreaming about it. Crazy.

    Angel,
There is POWER in the ability to dream your life into existence but only if we have the self discipline to execute a daily plan of action to manifest this into reality.

There is no greater power than the power of creation but this power of creation is only manifested when the power of discipline is applied to it.

Without discipline then in fact your goals & dreams are nothing more than fantasy.

If we all keep this in mind then discipline ourselves to take a concerted daily approach to our business there is no goal that is not achievable.

That’s my point, daydreaming is only a piece of the puzzle. Without taking action your dreams will forever be an intangible thing that is just out of reach.

      Thanks for stopping by,

      Angel

  5. Angel – thanks for your inspiration.

You are absolutely right: daydreaming gives us a vision and perseverance makes that vision a reality.

Can’t be a good entrepreneur without both.

  7. Unfortunately, I’m the opposite to you Angel, I spend way too much time on the action. And… then I find a lot of my actions don’t really fit in with what I want. If I spent a bit more time dreaming, and feeling how good it is to have whatever I want, then I’d have inspired action.

It’s the inspired action that really gets you what you want! That’s what I’ve experienced anyway, when I do it that way.

If I always did it that way, I just might have everything I want:-)

Thanks for your inspiring message Angel.

  9. Hey Angel,
Great post! Reminds me of this quote by TE Lawrence:
All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to find it was vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, that they may act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible- TE Lawrence

    Hey Angel,

You know what you need? An accountability partner. I have a close friend that I speak to every Sunday night. We are both heavy into personal development and hold ourselves accountable every week.

I’d also suggest getting yourself around people that will motivate you!

Congrats on the dreaming…all great inventions began with an idea. ;)

Chris Brogan made a comment about doing things different this year. He said that this should be our “creative” year. That’s what I’m focusing on for 2010. Forget the past—this is a brand new decade!

You have an exciting, interactive blog. I’m looking forward to reading more of your content.

  15. Great stuff Angel! I have the same problem. In my former career, I always had support staff to do the boring work. Now I have to do it myself and it can be challenging!

Maybe I can try to the boring things first and get them out of the way!

Nice post I have always been a daydreamer and I must admit “Think and Grow Rich” helped me to keep my attention and focus on my dreams, sometimes life can get in the way with everyday things taking over time & energy. When you keep the desire strong then your dreams seem to stay at the forefront of your mind. Thanks for the daydream reminder Angel.

  17. Daydreaming is a positive activity – it’s a way of setting goals, etc. Just like starting a retirement plan – first you think (daydream) about what you want to have when you retire, then you research and develop a way of attaining that daydream. You may start your retirement daydreams when you are young, but it is also necessary to act on them early in order to accomplish your daydreams.

    Hi Angel,
Napoleon Hill has been one Author who inspired me too.
Now, I love Esther and Jerry Hicks books Like “Ask and it is Given” where they talk about inspired action, which is the title of one of my posts.

Getting into feeling how we would feel if our dream was real is the most important according to Abraham.
Holding that feeling long enough and then take action. I am still learning to do that.

    To your Success!
