Full Time Job, Part Time Fortune

There’s been a lot of talk lately about whether having a job, or going back to a job, is somehow selling out on the dream of building a network marketing company. There was a really wonderful discussion on Nicole Cooper‘s facebook page that led to her doing an indepth blog post on the topic. So definitely head over there and check it out.

Though after reading everyone’s thoughts, I decided I wanted to weigh in as well. You see, I have actually had a job outside of my online marketing stuff for the entire 3 years that I’ve been at it. Some people have asked me why i would want to keep working and there are actually a couple of answers to that question.

One of the biggest reasons is that making money online, especially with the affiliate model that I have done for the majority of my time, is sort of hit and miss. One month you may do really well and the next you may do next to nothing.

I prefer to know that even if my online stuff doesn’t pan out for the month, I am still able to pay my bills. Going without lights is not fun. I’ve done that and I don’t plan on ever doing it again!

Another reason is that I actually love what I do for a living, which definitely makes a huge difference. Now that wasn’t always the case. There was a point where I was working for AT&T as an operator and I hated ever second of it. I worked 40-48 hours a week, sometimes 10 days in a row, for a little more than 2 years. Not fun!

So I left that job for something that I actually do love and I haven’t looked back. What I do now as a post production manager with an event photography company is something that I’d probably be doing even if I was filty rich.

A Bit of Jim Rohn Wisdom

However, there is a reason that I recently heard while listening to a speech by Jim Rohn that I think is a fantastic way to look at it. He had this great quote that goes, “I’m working full-time on my job and part time on my fortune. But it won’t be long before I’m working full-time on my fortune.”

How awesome is that?

Going about building your business in this manner also gives you an amazing recruiting story. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone who wants to hear about an extra $1000 full time, but people would love to hear about $1000 part time.

So by all means, work full time at your job and part time on your fortune. You’ll ensure stability in your life until you can say you’re working full time on your fortune. Happy Marketing!

Are You Throwing Away Your Time? Simple Time Management Tips

All of us are given the same 24 hour block of time each day to work with, yet some people accomplish way more during those hours than others. Why is that?

Well the simple answer is that some people have learned the art of time management while others haven’t. Though the phrase “time management” is somewhat misleading, because we don’t actually have the ability to “manage” time do we? However, we do have the ability to manage how we use the time we’re given.

Oh and believe me, I completely understand that it is sometimes easier said than done! I am notorious for wasting time on unimportant things and then running out of time for the important ones.

So here are a few time management tips that I have come across to help you (and me!) stop throwing away the precious time that we have.

- Value your time Due to the fact that time is so precious and that once it’s gone we can’t get it back, you should highly value the time you have. A good way to do this is to put a price tag on it.

For example, if you were to make $20 and hour on your job then each hour that you work is therefore worth $20. Then simply apply that same dollar amount to the rest of the hours in your day. So if you waste 4 hours watching mind-numbing television you have just thrown away $80!

- Block out chunks of time for each task One of the best practices that I have learned to incorporate into my own life is to set aside certain blocks of time for specific activities. That could mean that from 8-9am you get your exercise done, or from 9-12pm you work on your business. Whatever you set out to accomplish during these blocks, you have to focus completely on the task at hand. No exceptions!

-Prioritize your tasks It is so easy to get caught up in the little things like checking your email, or organizing your desk. So to get the most out of the time you have to work with, decide which tasks are the most important. Then you want to do those tasks first.

Brian Tracy has a great book called “Eat That Frog” that talks about how important it is to do the hardest and most important tasks first in order to get them out of the way. The title of the book speaks to the fact that eating a frog is not something you would want to do, which is why if you had to do it, you should get it over with quickly! So always remember to eat your frog before you move on to something less important.

- Write it down I’m sure that you have heard it said over and over again how you should write out a to do list each day. Well, I’m going to tell you again because it definitely helps me. I find that putting things on paper makes me much more accountable then just thinking about it in my head. There’s also something really fulfilling about being able to cross things off of your list.

Also, as a quick tip to writing your to do list, always keep your list to a maximum of about 6 things. Anymore than this and you may become overwhelmed and end up doing nothing at all.

3 Free Traffic Methods That I Bet You Aren’t Using

Is Twitter becoming more of a hassle to keep up with than it is a traffic stream for your business?

Are you actually even tired of spending hours upon hours on Facebook?

Don’t feel bad if you’ve answered yes to any of these questions. You’re not alone!

For many internet marketers, finding good free traffic methods is something we’re always on the lookout for.  It’s a constant search to find a way to generate quality leads for free with the least amount of effort on our part.

Though if you’ve been slaving away at any of the methods already mentioned, then you know that it’s easier said than done.

So here are 3 of my favorite free traffic methods that you probably aren’t using already…

1. Ebook Syndication

Have you ever realized just how many ebooks you’ve downloaded and have sitting on your computer? If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a ton of them!

So if you think about it, someone had to write these things, and why couldn’t it be you? The quickest way to get an ebook written is to simply repurpose articles and content that you already have.

You can use OpenOffice which is a free program comparable to Word, and simply create a document and save it as a PDF. Remember to put in links to your website in the footer of each page and the last page as well. This is how you’re going to use it to drive traffic to your site.

Then you can simply submit it to ebook directories and start generating traffic. Just do a search for “free ebook submit” and you’ll find tons of places to get your ebook out there.

2. Podcasting

If the thought of creating a podcast scares you, don’t let it. It’s not nearly as difficult as it seems. The quickest and easiest way for you to create your very own podcast is by once again reusing content you already have. If you have created a training video of some sort that you have submitted to video sites, then you can simply remove the audio from that video and repurpose it as a podcast.

You could also use the free program Audacity to record a short audio, which could simply be you reading off one of your articles. Then submit the new audio to free podcasting sites around the web and watch as traffic hits your site.

3. Thank You Banners

This one is all about getting other people to send you their traffic, which is one of the best kinds of free traffic methods. You do need to have a banner made that promotes some sort of free offer that people can get by opting in to your site.

If you can’t make one yourself, then you could use a site like Fivver or 99designs to get one made for you. Then send emails to marketers that offer free products that take people to a thank you page for downloading.

A large majority of marketers, especially the non-guru types, aren’t fully utilizing their thank you pages, which is a great place to give customers more stuff.

So ask these marketers if they would be willing to place your banner on their thank you page. (If you can give them an affiliate link so they will benefit as well, you’ll have a better chance of them saying yes.)

Free Social Media Contact Manager and Memory Jogger – VIDEO
