How to Win Friends and Influence People [VIDEO]

I thought I would try something new this month. So this will be the first installment of my Monday Book Club!

The book I just finished reading was How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie, which was really awesome. Not only is it a great read as far as books go, but it’s also one where you will actually learn something new.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make friends or how to simply deal with people in a more productive manner than I think that you will enjoy this book.

Mr Carnegie shares several principles such as  “be a good listener, and make the other person feel important,” and “remember a person’s name”, or my favorite, simply “smile.” He also gives indepth examples on how to use each one and then shows how each one will affect your life.

I truly believe that learning these techniques will not only make you a more influencial person, but will also make you a better person overall.

So check out my quick video below, and if you’ve read it before then leave me comments letting me know what you thought. If you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for?! Go pick it up :)

P.S. Don’t forget to comment and tweet this post! Thanks!

Internet Marketing Coaches, Trainers, and Gurus Oh My!

Is it just me or does it seem as though everyone and their dog is now an internet marketing coach, trainer, or guru? Earlier today I was cleaning out my email inbox and it seemed as though everything I read was signed off by someone using one of these titles.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against people calling themselves a coach or trainer, heck I’ve even done it myself. It’s just that I feel as though people believe that they must attach a title to their name in order to be taken seriously. But is it really necessary for everyone to have to claim to be a coach from day one?

I don’t see anything wrong with people teaching others as they learn themselves. People seem so afraid to show that they too are just learning the ropes which results in them coming off as a little bit fake.

My advice is to not be afraid to show people that you are learning and growing just as they are. I believe that it will not only make you come across as more down to earth but also show people that they don’t have to know everything from the jump.

Then as you start to feel a bit more confident in your abilities, then by all means, add a title to your name if you want. Nobody is stopping you and ultimately it’s your call.

Just remember that people will connect with you with or without the title. Simply share what you know in an unselfish manner, whether you learned it today or last year. Always strive to just be yourself since that’s really what you do best anyway!

Social Media Mania 2010

This past Saturday, May 22, I got the chance to attend the Social Media Mania event in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a training seminar featuring the superstars of MyLeadSystemPro including Cedrick Harris, Tracey Walker, Nicole Cooper, and Larry Beecham.

All that I can really say is that it was absolutely awesome. If you’ve ever been on a webinar or training call with one of these individuals, that’s nothing compared to the level of quality content they delivered in person. They covered areas such as social media techniques, to mindset, to offline marketing strategies and every minute was pure value.

Not to mention the fact that I got the opportunity to meet each one of these amazing people and it was a pleasure to say the least. I also got the chance to connect with several people that I’ve met online but had not yet met in person which was well worth the price of admission. While chatting online is awesome, getting the chance to meet people out in the real world is even better.

So if you haven’t attended a live event as of yet, I highly recommend that you do. People often say that live events are where money is made and I’m beginning to believe they were right :)

P.S. I got lost not 5 minutes after recording that last clip! Oh well, I got to see parts of Atlanta I’d never seen before :)

3 Steps to an Effective Elevator Pitch

I’ve recently gotten more into networking offline and it had come to my attention that I didn’t have a good, compelling answer to the universal question “What do you do?” So I decided to work on crafting an effective answer or what is often referred to as an elevator pitch. The term elevator pitch simply refers to the ability to tell someone what you do in the span of an elevator ride. Therefore, your answer needs to be short, catchy, and to the point.

While I was working on coming up with my own elevator pitch, I started searching around for some good tips on what makes one effective. Though I came across all kinds of advice, there were a couple that stood out as being the most important so I would like to share them with you.

Tip 1. Grab the Attention of the Listener
As we all know, people have very short attention spans, so it is of the utmost importance to get them interested immediately.  It’s also clear that many people ask this question out of habit and rarely do they actually care about your answer. That is why if you say something unique, not only will they be more likely to engage in conversation with you, but it will also be more likely that you will stand out in their memory. After all, isn’t that what you want, to be memorable?

Tip 2. Keep it short and simple
This is a variation of the K.I.S.S. method that goes back to the fact that people have short attention spans. If you go droning on about every detail of what you do, you can bet that the person is no longer listening. They are probably having a Charlie Brown moment where all they are hearing is Wah Wah Wah! So try to be short and to the point and stay away from anything complicated or confusing. You want them to focus on the overall picture, not the minute details.

Tip 3. Share the result of what you do
Most people when asked what they do, have a knee jerk reaction to give their job title or tell what company they work for. This is boring. The goal of using an elevator pitch is to start a conversation so you want your answer to be interesting enough that it elicits a response. I heard a story recently and I think that sharing it will help this make more sense.

A woman entered a coffee shop to find a man sitting in what she believed to be her seat. She walks up to him and asks “I see you here all the time, what is it that you do?” His response was “I help rich people sleep better at night.” She laughs and says, “Well you must be either a pharmacist or a financial planner!” He was indeed a financial planner, and you can bet that the next time she sees him she will be sure to remember what he does thanks to his creative answer. So remember to always lead with the result of what you do and stand out from the crowd.

I hope this helps you come up with your own unique answer to “what do you do” so that you can make the most out of your networking efforts.

Happy Marketing!

P.S. Feel free to post your elevator pitches in the comments below so that everyone can see what wonderful ideas you’ve come up with!

Easy Network Marketing Strategies That Work!

I’m sure that if you are anything like I was when I first started, you are struggling to find network marketing strategies that work. It’s often frustrating to look around at all of the gurus and big named marketers making obscene amounts of money when you are barely breaking even.  Sometimes it seems that the network marketing industry is nothing more than a giant fraternity of people and you were not invited to join.

Though while this may appear to be the case, it is really more like a team in which you stay second string until you prove yourself worthy of being a starter.

So everyone gets to play but you have to put in the work to move up in the ranks.

This means that you will need to have some simple network marketing strategies in place in order to become successful and be the star player that you are destined to be.

The first, most important, strategy that you need to implement is the use of a personally branded attraction marketing site. What do I mean by this? I mean get rid of your replicated company website and get one with your own info, and your own picture or video. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a site that is completely you. The goal is to position yourself as a leader and to do that you need to be up front and center.

The second strategy is to have a sales funnel in place that will direct your prospects exactly where you want them to go. You should be leading with either a free or low end offer that gets them onto your list. Once you have their information you can direct them through a series of upsells that lead to your backend product, promote affiliate products to make commissions, or both. This will allow you to profit off of those people who you would otherwise have lost.

The third strategy, and one that I feel very strongly about, is to have your own blog. In today’s network marketing landscape it is extremely important to have a blog that will serve as your home base. Think of it as your house and it is where you invite people to come in order to get to know you better. While many will say that you must have yourname.com, I’m aware that this is not always possible. Especially for those who have pretty common names or run into something like a singer of the same name, such as in my case. So even though my blog’s domain is more generic it is branded to me, which I think is the ultimate goal.

The fourth, and last, strategy that I’m going to cover is somewhat connected to the first in that it has to do with your brand. I have found that having your social media profiles and backgrounds revolve around the same look and feel will help solidify your brand across the board. This would include things such as your blog style or header, twitter background, and youtube channel. If you don’t know how to do this yourself, look into a service that offers social media customization packages. You can find some decent prices if you search around, so do some digging to find the best deal.

Though these may sound like simple network marketing strategies, they are what have made the most difference in my ability to market effectively. So believe me when I say, if implemented correctly, they can help you achieve the success that you are after. Then you’ll be able to stand among the gurus and say, “Wow, that wasn’t so hard after all!”
