New Facebook Changes: What You Need To Know

Yesterday, Facebook shook things up at F8 with the launch of some major changes to not only the look and feel of the platform, but how we interact with it.

It’s the first truly substantial change to the social site since it’s inception back in 2004.
Now I’m sure you’ve noticed that not everyone shares in Zukerberg’s excitement of how Facebook is evolving. Many people have expressed everything from mild annoyance to downright outrage over the changes. Though what is actually changing?

Well quite a lot actually. Pretty much everyone has already experienced the new ticker feature that shows an constantly scrolling news feed of everything you and your friends are doing.

There has also been changes to the news feed itself which now shows Top Posts and Recent Posts in the same feed. Though it may take a bit of getting used to, you’re not missing out on anything. It’s all still there!

Then there’s the subscribe button which allows you to subscribe to someone without having to become friends. You can also set how much of your friend’s updates you actually see.

Though the biggest change is definitely the introduction of the Timeline feature which will replace the current profiles. I personally think that this is going to be a neat feature, though will definitely take some getting used to.

But it’s essentially an online scrapbook of your life where you can add updates, photos, news, apps, and anything else you want to share with the world.

It’s all being rolled out slowly so you may not have seen everything just yet. But when it does make its way to everyone, things will definitely be a bit more interesting in facebook land.

Prepare for some cool new features, some that’ll take you a while to get used to, and much more bickering over everything!

Enjoy!

Create a Facebook Page and Feel Like A Celebrity

create a facebook pageIn the new realm of social media, there are a few things that everyone really must have: a blog, a twitter account, a youtube channel, and a facebook profile. These have all become essential to getting the visibility we as marketers are looking for.

Though there is now a new kid on the block who seems to want to stick around for the long haul. While not completely a new idea, it has only recently started to become the hot new thing. So what am I talking about you might ask?

Well a facebook page of course!

I just re-did my facebook page and it got a ton of great reviews. However, it also got all kinds of “how to” questions from people wanting to know how to create a facebook page of their own. So, instead of trying to answer everyone individually, I decided to shoot a video walking you through the process.

How Not To Spam Your Facebook Friends

stop-spamIf you’ve been on Facebook for any length of time then I’m sure that you have been a victim of Facebook spamming at one point or another. It is becoming quite an issue in the world of internet marketing due to the increasing popularity of the social networking giant.

For me, the spamming has started to drive me just a little crazy and I’d be willing to bet I’m not alone. So here is a list of a few things that I feel are spammy so that you can try to avoid it in your own marketing efforts.

1.) Pitching your business in a friend request

I don’t know how many people I’ve ignored over the past week or so because the first contact I had with them was to be pitched on their new business. When making a friend request, it should be about introducing yourself and putting your best foot forward. NOT shoving your business down someone’s throat. The whole point is to use Facebook to build relationships with other people.

If you were attending a party, you wouldn’t go up to someone new and say “Hi my name’s Angel and I think that you should join my new and amazing Hot Air Balloon MLM!” If you wouldn’t do this in real life what makes you think it’s a good idea online?

2.) Posting ads on other people’s walls

I realize that some people think that this is ok, however in my opinion it’s just annoying. I’m all for posting messages to the person or maybe even sharing a cool quote or article but only if that person wouldn’t mind you doing so. I think that the only time you should post blatant advertisements on a wall would be in certain groups that allow you to do so. Otherwise, keep all of your business related info on your own page.

3.) Abusing the chat feature

Recently, I made the decision to not show as online when I’m signed into my account because I was getting bombarded with business pitches. While there are a few people who actually use it to chat, most people only seem interested in using it to get you to join their new thing.

Since we are all primarily in the same internet marketing niche, if I was looking to join a new deal then I know where to find you. Otherwise, please stop pitching me on everything under the sun.

Thank you :)

P.S. These are simply my own observations, no offense intended.
